The Marantz DLT-1 digital line transformer is an inline transformer (plus a few loading resistors) designed to go between CD player and amp.
The Marantz DLT-1 actually increased the output slightly, but it helped to filter out RF mush coming out of many CD players twenty years ago.
From the 1989 brochure:
"The digital line transformer DLT1 provides a perfect separation between the earth circuits of the CD player and amplifier. The transmission of digital distortion via the interlinks is thereby suppressed. However, the audio signal is passed on without restrictions. After a DLT1 is interconnected, in many cases the CD playback quality will improve remarkably."
- Isolation transformer for trouble-free connection of CD player and amplifier
- Strict separation of earth circuits, effective shielding of digital storage
- Isolated transfer of the entire audiosignal
